READ ME: About this Framework, Progression, and Requirements

About: This Skill Tags Framework is designed to 1) Offer Fellows a path of progression within LHD’s structure (advancements, leadership opportunities), and 2) Grow each Fellow’s skills in software development, design, or product management. Through this framework, we hope all Fellows not only contribute in building impactful projects through high-quality standards, but actively exercise on their current skill set and learn new ones.

Progression: This framework is made up of Skill Tags, Pathways, and Badges.

Requirements: Developer Fellow and UX Design Fellow are LHD’s introductory roles, designed to last for two academic semesters. To remain in LHD, Fellows are required to progress through this framework by contributing to LHD projects and actively pursuing intermediate proficiency in certain skills. By the end of a Fellow’s second semester in LHD, the Fellow is expected to have advanced to Software Engineer – Junior, UX Designer – Junior or a leadership position in LHD. Any member who isn’t a Fellow is still encouraged to progress through this framework if they wish to someday advance to Senior or leadership positions, but is not required to.

Read more about each piece of the framework below. To get started, submit a LHD Skill Tag Batch Request for all the skill tags you might already possess and choose a single pathway or badge to aim for.

Skill Tags

View all available skill tags below, or here: Skill Tags

Skill Tags identifies a member’s key strengths, discover areas for improvement, and learn new skills they are passionate or curious about. Any member, regardless of position or expertise, can apply for any tag whether in software development, design, or product management.

Each member in LHD will have a set of Skill Tags assigned to their member profile, including their **proficiency level** (beginner, intermediate, advanced) for each Skill Tag.

Obtain a skill tag through contributions to LHD projects, personal projects, or other relevant work. When you believe you meet the proficiency level description below, fill out the ‣ and wait for approval.

Besides building on and learning new skills, skill tags help LHD leadership in deciding which members can advance from fellow positions to be LHD Junior/Senior Software Engineers or Junior/Senior UX Designers or supplement a member’s application to become a project team member, Technical Lead , UX Design Lead , Product Lead , or Executive Board Director (Positions).

Pathways

View all Pathways below, or here: Pathways

A Pathway is a curated collection of related Skill Tags that represents a core competency or a specific project need.

Make progress and complete a Pathway by gaining intermediate proficiency in the individual Skill Tags it contains. When you met intermediate proficiency for all the Pathway’s Skill Tags, fill out the ‣ and wait for approval.

Pathways provide a clear answer to the question, "What skills should I learn to become a Frontend Developer?" or "What do I need to know to contribute to the UT Registration Plus project?"

A Badge is a form of official recognition awarded to a member for achieving a significant accomplishment within this framework. It represents a milestone in the member’s development.

Earn a badge by completing Pathways or fulfilling specific goals. When you fulfilled the criteria for the Badge, fill out the ‣ and wait for approval.

For example, a member earns the "Full-Stack Badge" only after they have successfully completed both the "Frontend Developer Pathway" and "Backend Developer Pathway"
